It is not news that the issues surrounding Jeremey Swayman and the Boston Bruins have been ongoing all offseason, but it was rumored both sides were very far apart on what they wanted out of a contract. When it was mentioned by Neely how much they offered Swayman, many were calling him greedy for not taking the deal, now, his agent is defending him saying that that offer was the first he has heard of it and the team never actually gave a number of that magnitude.
Sportsnet analyst and trusted NHL insider Elliotte Friedman discusses that there is a real possibility that Lewis Gross is being a bit deceitful in his emotional response that he posted on his social media. He claimed the team never offered "$64 million dollars", but Friedman believes that the number offered is probably closer to $60-62 million dollars, and is using those semantics to make the Bruins look bad and paint them as liars. If this is the case, then his agent is doing no favors for mending or keeping the relationship between the Bruins and Swayman in a good place.
It is difficult to know who really is to blame here, but his agent has a reputation of driving hard negotiations that cause long stand offs. In our opinion, we side with Friedman, Lewis Gross is upset the team went public with a number that is slightly off and is defending his client for that purpose, the only thing remains is that, can this situation be mended where there is no bitterness on either side and they can move forward with a long-term deal.
Nonetheless, at the end of the day, it is now up to Jeremy Swayman to decide if he wants to be a Boston Bruin after all of this drama and if can put all of this behind him.
