NHL mourns the loss of long-time hockey icon Gilles Leger

The NHL has confirmed today that the hockey world has lost one of the good ones. They confirmed that ling-time hockey icon, Gilles Leger has passed away at the age of 83.

Leger was a well respected figure for a very long time in the hickey world, he wore many hats when it came to his involvement in the league. For the past 60 years, Leger was a scout, general manager and coach across the NHL, AHL and WHL.

His most notable role was with the Quebec Nordiques when he served a their assistant general manager for 11 years from 1984 to 1995.

Official Statement

"The hockey world mourns the passing of Gilles Leger, whose career in professional hockey spanned six decades as a coach, general manager, pro scout and other Hockey Operations positions for teams in the NHL, AHL and WHA," the NHL said. "We send out heartfelt condolences to his family and the many friends he made in hockey across a lengthy career serving the game he loved."
