Tyler Bertuzzi has been a popular topic of interest in the NHL recently. Bertuzzi was with the Detroit Red Wings until he was traded to the Boston Bruins in the 2023-2024 season. During the offseason Boston decided to let Bertuzzi go due to a salary cap that they unfortunately could not surpass, and he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Bertuzzi became popular among Bruins fans during the time that he played for them and now that the 2024-2025 off season is here, the Bruins find themselves with more cap space than they previously had. Therefore, it might be in both Bertuzzi and the Bruins' favor to strike a deal and get him back in Boston.
According to the Bruins Benders podcast, the Bruins have expressed interest in Bertuzzi and the likelihood of them making a deal is high. Since Bertuzzi has already played with the Bruins he knows how things work on and off the ice in Boston, which makes him a good candidate. With the Bruins looking to improve for the 2024-2025 season, Bertuzzi would harmonize nicely with the other players on the Bruins roster. Bertuzzi's talent on the ice would also allow for more goals during games in Boston.
While this could be the perfect fit for Boston, it could also be a perfect fit for Toronto as the Maple Leafs have also expressed interest in keeping Bertuzzi and may not be willing to strike a trade deal with Boston. This also means we will have to wait and see what happens during the NHL's draft lottery in June. Best of luck to both teams.
