Yesterday the Columbus Blue Jackets traded 40+ goal scorer Patrik Lainend a 2nd round pick to the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Jordan Harris, and the result actually has some very positive implications for the Boston Bruins.

The Montreal Canadiens were one of the few team in the NHL that had the ability to qualify and offer sheet for RFA goalie Jeremy Swayman due to their surplus of cap space. But, with Laine now heading to 'La Belle Province' where the team has to take on his $7.75 million to as much as $10 million AAV per season salary, they now are sitting around $2 million over the cap, meaning they will not be able to go after Swayman.

In conjunction with the Laine trade, Swayman has announced he is happy where he is and is not interested playing for another organization.

«I love it here, and that's all that I can control,» Swayman said on Sunday after competing in the Columbia Threadneedle Investments Boston Triathlon.

«I know it's a business, and it's unfortunate at times. But I know I'm going to be playing hockey at the end of the day, and I really hope it's with the Boston Bruins.»

Will Swayman sign a contract before the season starts?
