The 'Hockey is for Everyone' debate persists as a Buffalo Sabres player becomes the most recent NHL player to decline wearing Pride warmup jerseys.

The Sabres will hold their Pride Night this evening as they welcome the Montreal Canadiens.

Declining to Wear the Pride Jersey

Ilya Lyubushkin revealed that he would not participate in the warmup, while Sabres reporter Paul Hamilton disclosed the defenseman's reasoning:

''Being a Russian player who lives in Russia in the off season, Ilya Lyubushkin has decided not to participate in Pride Night tonight. He fears for his family back home and will play tonight, but will not take warm up.''

The subject remains contentious within the NHL, but it is difficult to criticize some players' reasons, particularly when we lack insight into global events and when protecting family is a priority.

Nevertheless, the Sabres organization has maintained that they are inclusive and are honored to host this special evening.
