The Leafs are experiencing the physical prowess of the Panthers, similar to what the Bruins faced in the first round. However, Panthers' forward Sam Bennett took it a step too far in game two.

NHL Player Safety Intervenes

Following a contentious game two in Toronto, the NHL's Player Safety Department has decided to discipline Bennett for his elevated cross-check on Michael Bunting.

"Florida's Sam Bennett has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking against Toronto's Michael Bunting."


The maximum fine was imposed as a result of the following play on Bunting in the second period:

While it may not be the most egregious cross-check in the league's history, it's still a play that we need to see less of. Regardless of whether the stick inadvertently slid up the shoulder pads, players must maintain control over their sticks.

Conversely, considering Michael Bunting was on the receiving end of the hit, one might question the severity of the impact due to his reputation for embellishing.
