The news broke by well respected NHL insider Kevin Weeks that Askarov, who is touted as the leagues best up and coming goalie has no intention of staying with the team. He has demanded a trade and says even if a deal doesn't come to fruition he will not be attending development camp.
The 22-year-old netminder was selected 11th overall in the 2020 NHL draft by the Nashville Predators, with only 3 NHL games under his belt, he is requesting a trade with not a lot of leverage. In those 3 games he holds a 2.57 GAA and .914 save %.
When the Predators locked up their start goalie Jusse Saros to an 8-year deal worth $61.92 million in July, Askarov clearly saw this move as his time being up with the organization. He as he has no interest in being a backup in the NHL even though the dawn of the 1A/1B goalie tandem is well established.
