Today Beniers signed a 7-year, $49.98 million contract extension that carries an AAV of $7.14 million. Kraken GM Ron Francis commented on what it meant to have Beniers be a core piece of the organization.
The 21 year old is coming off his 3-year entry level contract and there were no real doubts if he was going to stay or not. He was the Krakens first ever draft pick and did not skip a beat when he played his first season in 2022. He scored 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points to go on to win the Calder trophy for the league's top rookie.
Beniers has now played in 167 NHL games and has accumulated 42 goals and 103 points. Even with a slight down year in his sophomore season, Matty Beniers is touted to be a future superstar sniper in the NHL and to lock up him at just over $7-million is a steal for the Kraken.
Congratulations Matty!
