Per NHL Insider and Sportsnet analyst, Elliote Friedman, the Lighting franchise is set to be sold for an insane $2 Billion which will smash the previous record for the sale of an NHL team. Before this number was released to the public, the Ottawa Senators were the highest purchased team in the NHL when it sold for $950 Million.
The current CEO of Blue Owl Capital, Doug Ostrover is reported to be the primary investor and purchaser of the team.
It is no real surprise that the team is being valued at this price, the organization has taken massive leaps the last decade and have been incredibly successful on the ice. Tampa Bay won back to back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021 and the fan base which was once small has now grown to a massive size.
With all that being said, do you think the team is worth this much?
