Gary Bettman announces his verdict on Corey Perry's eligibility to return to play this season

Information regarding the event that led to Corey Perry's dismissal from the Chicago Blackhawks remains undisclosed. It's reported to have involved alcohol at a company function. Following the termination of his contract, speculation arose about Perry's future in the NHL.
Upon his contract being terminated, Perry issued the following statement:
"I would like to sincerely apologize to the entire Chicago Blackhawks organization, including ownership, management, coaches, trainers, employees, and my teammates. I would also like to apologize to my fans, and my family. I am embarrassed and have let you all down."
When prompted for a response, Gary Bettman emphasized that the final decision on whether Corey Perry could resume playing this season was his to make. Today, Elliotte Friedman reported that Bettman has officially made his decision.
Corey Perry, whose contract was terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 30, met Tuesday with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and now is eligible to sign with other teams.
Perry has become an unrestricted free agent and has the liberty to sign with any team of his choice.
