Andrew Cogliano, a seasoned NHL player with 17 years in the league, has officially announced his retirement. The Colorado Avalanche star, who was set to enter free agency, has opted to conclude his playing career and transition to a new role within the organization focusing on player development and scouting.
Cogliano, who celebrated a Stanley Cup victory with the Avalanche in 2022, revealed his decision in a heartfelt statement:
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2005, Cogliano swiftly became known for his durability and versatility, playing in all 82 games during his rookie season. Throughout his career, he distinguished himself as a reliable two-way player, known for consistency rather than flashy play.
At the age of 37, Cogliano concludes his career having played 1,294 games, maintaining an ironman streak for 11 seasons until a suspension interrupted it.
Thank you Cogs for continuously making an impact on and off the ice.
