Brad Marchand takes jab at Wayne Gretzky
In the 2022-2023 season in April, Bruins forward Brad Marchand won the first ever award for Mr. TNT. This past season, the Tampa Lightning head coach Jon Cooper was the 2nd winner of this unique award. This award is given to an NHL player or coach that provides the best personality during TNT broadcasts.
When Jon Cooper won this award, Brad Marchand reached out to Cooper and decided to take a jab at the great one Wayne Gretzky in the process. Jon Cooper was on the TNT broadcast Friday night, and he shared that after he won the award, Bard Marchand reached out to him via text and stated :
When sharing this text with the TNT broadcast, this caused the entire TNT analyst to laugh. Cooper beat out several others for this award including Edmonton Oilers' Zach Hyman, Carolina Hurricanes' Jordan Martinook and Seattle Kraken's Joey Daccord.
Wayne Gretzky has won several awards himself throughout his career including multiple Hart Memorial, Art Ross and Conn Smythe Trophies and holds several NHL records.
