The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced a major change to their organization. They have fired the current GM Jarmo Kekalainen.
John Davidson, along with the team's hockey operations management team, will assume general manager's duties while the club goes through the process of hiring a replacement.
Kekalainen has been the Columbus GM since 2013, the longest tenure of any GM in Blue Jackets history. The club has a 410-362-97 record under his management, with 5 Stanely Cup Playoffs Appearances. The club also posted their four most winningest season under the 57-year-old GM.
Columbus has failed to reach expectation both this year and last season. This season they sit in last place in the Metro Division with just 42 points and almost certainly going to miss the playoffs, signifying a need for a change within the club.
«On behalf of our ownership group, I'd like to thank Jarmo for his hard work and commitment over the past 11 years,» said Blue Jackets Majority Owner and Governor John P. McConnell. «He and Tiina, and their daughters, are special people who will always be a part of our Blue Jackets family and I wish them the very best in the next chapter of their lives.»
