The Boston Bruins officially secured the Presidents' Trophy after their victory on Thursday but it could be useless due to the so-called 'Curse' associated with it.
Attempting to Dodge the Curse
The Bruins aim to prevent becoming the 10th consecutive Presidents' Trophy recipient to NOT win the Stanley Cup. The most recent team to accomplish this feat was the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013, during a lockout-shortened season.
As highlighted by Bleacher Report, the players are trying ‘'literally trying anything'' to shatter the curse.
Joking aside, Head Coach Jim Montgomery alluded to the team's broader perspective following their 2-1 overtime win against the Blue Jackets last night.
''I mean, for sure we're going to look at it, but the Presidents' Trophy teams have also won the most percentages of Stanley Cups, so I'm going to look at it that way. I'd rather be Presidents [Trophy] winners than [finish] second, third, fourth or fifth because they haven't won the Cup as much.''
Ty Anderson of 98.5 conveyed the coach's sensible viewpoint:
''To his point, eight Presidents' Trophy winners have won Cup since PT was introduced in 1985-86 (22.2%). And since 1927, 38 of 95 total No. 1 overall seeds have won Cup (40 percent).''
