The main rumour is that Jeremy Swayman is demanding no less than $10-million AAV, and came out and said that he has educated himself during last years arbitration process which is helping him this year. But the Bruins feel it is too much risk to give a young goalie that much AAV and term for never carrying a full workload being the "#1 guy" in net.
General manager Don Sweeney and the Bruins are more in the ballpark of $8.5 AAV and the fact that Swayman is not budging is ridiculous. The Bruins have notoriously been a team where stars take less in order to compete for a Stanley Cup every year, and even Marchand and Bergeron have taken less when they could have received way more in the open market.
If both Sway and the Bruins are over $2,000,000 apart, it is not out of the question that Swayman would elect to sit out the first part of the season while they continue to negotiate. If you ask my opinion, it is selfish on Swayman's part, he simply does not deserve $10,000,000 million a year, period.
