Boston Bruins captain and future Hall-of-famer Brad Marchand admits today in an interview that a departure from the Bruins is a very real possibility.

Marchand is a living Boston Bruins legend that has a lock for a Hall-of-Fame induction in the future, but he told the media today that a contract extension with the team is not a guarantee as he will be 37-years-old when his contract is set to be up.

In an interview with Amelie Benjamin of NHL.com, He acknowledged that there is a visible uncertainty with his future with the Bruins and if the team does not want to extend him he would not be totally surprised, but he emphasized he just wants to focus on the season and does not want to go into further details on contract talks.

«I'm going to say this now and kind of leave it at that, but I won't ever talk about contract stuff in the media,» Marchand said. «I saw a report come out the other day -- I think it was the Hockey News, I don't know where he's getting his information -- but it wasn't from our side. We're not going to talk about it.

«Whatever goes on will stay internal between [general manager Don Sweeney] and our group. I'm going to leave it at that. I think there's enough respect between the two sides that we can deal with it. We'll leave it at that.»

Whether or not Marchand re-signs with the Bruins, his legacy and impact on the team and the city of Boston will live on and he deserves to be apart of the team for as long as he sees fit.
