The Boston Bruins likely have one of the best defensive cores going into the season with the likes of Charlie McAvoy, Nikita Zadorov plus up and comer Mason Lohrei.

Training camp in Boson is well underway, after practice this morning veteran defenseman Charlie McAvoy answered some questions from the media in the locker room.

First he spoke of Nikita Zadorov who the Bruins signed in the off-season to a 5 year deal and will likely pair him with McAvoy this season on the first pairing. McAvoy said Zadorvo has a great two way game and that he is bigger than big on the ice with a mean edge to his game.

McAvoy also spoke of young defenseman Mason Lohrei who had a great playoff run last year and will likely have a much bigger role this season. Lohrei has been running the second power play unit and McAvoy said he has not seen much of him yet but that he is incredible gifted offensively.

Charlie McAvoy on Zadorov:

«He's got a good two-way game, and I think his biggest thing is he's big, and he's mean.»

Also asked McAvoy about Lohrei quarterbacking PP2. Said they haven't talked much about it between them, but stressed how «offensively gifted» he is.

Clearly the Bruins will have an impressive set of d pairings this season in both ends as they have a great combo of offensive and defensive defenseman which the majority of teams do not have.

While there is still some question marks surrounding their forwards heading into the 2024-25 season, there are zero regarding their defensemen as this lineup cannot get much better than this.
