It was reported early this morning that former Boston Bruins forward James van Riemsdyk is reportedly finalizing a PTO deal with Seattle Kraken.

JVR has been reported as a top free agent still left on the market for teams to go after but it seems based on multiple reports that he will be joining the Kraken on a tryout.

«Multiple NHL teams continue to show interest in James van Riemsdyk. He's one of the few remaining LW options available and is viewed as a high-character veteran that is expected to land a PTO before training camps open next week.» Insider Chris Johnston

van Riemsdyk's 38-point 2023-24 season with the Boston Bruins where he scored 11 goals and 27 assists was not reminiscent of his game early in his career. Nonetheless, as a player on the tail end of his career, he can add a lot of value with leadership and playing on a bottom-6 role which could be beneficial to a young team like the Kraken.

His versatility to play anywhere in the lineup, whether that is on the powerplay, penalty kill, or on the top-2 lines makes him a valuable asset for any team, especially at the price he will sign for if he makes the team off his PTO.
