Hot Take: Charlie McAvoy wins the Norris Trophy this season and here is why
Charlie McAvoy has consistentl, y proven he is a top defenseman in the NHL providing stellar dominance at both ends of the ice. But what does he have to do to finally win his first Norris Trophy?
Charlie McAvoy has been consistently a high 50's to 60 point guy in the league while manning consistent deference on the blue line. He plays both powerplay and penalty kill and provides offense, but many wonder if he can ever win when their are players like Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes.
Back in 2015-2016, a comparable player of Drew Doughty won the Norris trophy after finishing 9th in points but dominating at both ends of the ice. He played first penalty kill and powerplay and was relies on in ever situation and McAvoy provides this same value to the bruins but has to take just an extras step up to reach that goal.
Last season McAvoy scored 12 goals and 35 assists for 47 points and +/- rating of +4 but kept his defense play alive on a solid team. Do you think McAvoy can win a Norris after seeing Doughty win with similar numbers?
