New Bruins goalie shines in debut - What does this mean for Jeremey Swayman?
With RFA and star goalie Jeremy Swayman still unsigned with no end it sight, it is up to Bruins newcomer Joonas Korpisalo to take on the starting netminder responsibilities.
The Boston Bruins took on the Washington Capitals last night (September 24th) where newcomer Joonas Korpisalo and budding prospect Michael DiPietro were asking to mind the net for the team. Montogmery stated before the game that the two were going to play half the game in order to get some live repetitions. Needless to say, Korpisalo impressed in his debut.
Montgomery gave Korpisalo the nod to start the game, and although he did not face a lot of tough shots, he managed to look comfortable and collected by not letting a single one go by him. He stopped seven out of seven shots, where two were grade-A scoring chances.
The Bruins ultimately defeated the Capitals 4-2 where it was a solid game all-around for the club but a big night for their new potential starting goalie.
Although on his first game, and many more to come, overall, Korpi left a very good first impression on head coach Jim Montgomery and the entire Bruins team. Obviously, if Swayman signs, he will be taking over the starting duties, but as it stands right now, the team is not a detriment with having Joonas in net.
