Riley Tufte making biggest impact for the Boston Bruins in preseason
As the preseason is set to come to a close in under a week, Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins are going to have a lot of hard decisions on their hands, but one Bruins forward is forcing his way into the lineup with his stellar play.
Most of the offseason attention and anticipation has been focused on how top prospects Matthew Poitras, Georgii Merkulov and Fabian Lysell. They all have high expectations and have excelled in the AHL for the Providence Bruins, now other players are now taking over that attention.
The 6-foot-6 Riley Tufte has found his way to Boston when he signed on July 1st to a 1-year, $775,000 deal after playing in the Colorado Avalanche organization. He managed to appear in 5 games with the big club where scored 1 goal and 1 assist but spent the rest of season with the Colorado Eagles of the AHL. He impressed greatly with his power-forward style of play and offensive abilities. In 67 games, he scored 23 goals and 22 assists for 45 points and a +/- of +5.
With forwards Max Jones, Elias Lindholm and Brad Marchand out of commission for preseason action, Tufte has really stepped up and impressed he organization. He scored a big goal against the Washington Capitals and has been a stand out in training camp playing physical and making pays in the offensive zone.
The Bruins have a lot of question marks when it comes to finalizing their forward group, which gives the opportunity for players like Riley Tufte to make their mark, which is exactly what he did. we would be very surprised if he is not on the opening night roster come October 8th.
