At 35, Lucic faces allegations of assaulting his wife on November 18, within their Boston apartment. The incident came to light after his wife's emergency call to 911, following an altercation where Lucic, unable to locate his cellphone, allegedly accused her of concealing it and commenced yelling.
According to the police report, the situation escalated when Lucic forcefully pulled her backwards by her hair as she attempted to leave the scene. The responding officers reported Lucic seemed intoxicated and discovered a shattered lamp in the bedroom.
Lucic faced arrest and subsequently entered a plea of not guilty to assaulting and battering a family member.
During the court session on Friday morning, the judge listened to the emergency call as part of the deliberation over a request to exclude it from the trial. While the prosecution team argues for the inclusion of the 911 call as evidence, Lucic's legal representatives oppose it. The session paused for the judge to deliberate on this matter.
Following his detention, Lucic was freed with the condition to abstain from alcohol consumption. He has been granted an indefinite leave from the Bruins and has enrolled in the NHL/NHLPA's player assistance program. This initiative provides support for players and their families dealing with issues related to mental health, substance misuse, and other challenges.
The 17-year NHL veteran pleaded not guilty in November to a charge of assault and battery on his wife.
More update to come.
