The Bruins made a lot of big changes this year including letting go of a lot of players such as 3 defensemen.

Matt Grzelcyk, Kevin Shattekirk and Derek Forbort will all not be returning this season.

Grzelcyk and Forbort both have been part of the Bruins D-core for a long time but after struggling last season and being liabilities in the playoffs, the Bruins had to walk away.

Shattenkirk on the other hand was used as a reliable 7th defensemen and a huge part of the 2nd powerplay unit but the Bruins felt it was not worth re-signing him.

His vision and ability to get pucks through to the net on the power play paid dividends, as he recorded 11 (2G-9A) of his 24 points on the man advantage.

Boston's blueliners look great on paper this year despite a few guys such as Lohrei not having much experience but hopefully Sweeney made the right move and it will be evident on the ice.
