Jake Debrusk has been the most notable Bruin available at the Trade Deadline. Surely the Bruins are buyers at the Deadline, but they have under a million and cap space and very little in the way of draft assets to trade. This brings us to DeBrusk. He is a top six forward who can slot in on any line and provide primary or secondary scoring. After a slow start to the season this year he has really turned it around since the Holiday Break.
The Bruins and DeBrusk have expressed interest in getting a deal done, but no indications have come out that talks have progressed towards an extension. With the lack of extension, or even recent comments on the situation, the decision is now leaning towards DeBrusk' s time in Boston coming to an end.
The Bruin's best option is to let DeBrusk' s camp seek out a trade partner, and possibly negotiate a sign and trade. A signed DeBrusk or pending signed DeBrusk will bring back more value to the Bruins then a Jake DeBrusk headed towards unrestricted free agency this summer.
Can Sweeny flip Jake DeBrusk who the Bruins never intended on signing, for a player like Noah Hanifin or Jacob Middleton? Time will tell, but it would be a shining achievement for Sweeny if he gets it done.
