Undisclosed NHL Insiders have reported that the Edmonton Oilers and Leon Draisaitl are on completely different pages when it comes to the terms of a new contract.

The news was broke through the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, where they state that the Oilers are really only interested in signing a shorter term deal, around 4-years, while Draisaitl's camp want a full term of 8-years.

Draisaitl is taking a page out of the Bruins handbook as the superstar has made it clear he is willing to take less money for a longer term deal as it increases the chances to compete for a Stanley Cup year after year.

Some news this afternoon regarding
@EdmontonOilers
Leon Draisaitl & his contract extension talk. There's been some talk from local media saying it could be a 4 year deal but after speaking to those close to the Draisaitl camp he's ONLY interested in signing long term in Edmonton so an 8 year deal is what he's looking for at this time & it sounds like he will take less $ in a long term deal but only if others are willing to do the same.

Leon Draisaitl loves it in Edmonton & he strongly believes this organization can win multiple @StanleyCup if players take less, some news we heard over the last 72 hours was that Connor, Leon & Evan said if our core players are taking less than we take less.

This is a story to follow as we all know.

The fact this is an issue for the Oilers organization to give a top 5 player in the NHL a full-term contract is mind boggling to me and to fans around the league.

What do you think is holding them back?
