Former Edmonton Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen has announced his retirement

It was announced today that former Edmonton Oilers goalie Mikko Koskinen has announced his retirement for the game of hockey.

Koskinen was drafted 31st overall by the New York Islanders in 2009 but only appeared in 4 games and spent the better part of 3 years in the AHL for the Bridgeport Soundtigers. Unable to crack the NHL roster, he went and played 6 season overseas in the KHL, but did end up coming back to North America.

In 2018, the Edmonton Oilers gave him a shot and was in a goalie tandem with Mike Smith. Over his 6-year NHL career and 168 games, he accumulated a record of 85-60, a .906 save % and a 3.01 goals against average.

Koskinen has spent the last 2 season over in te Swiss-A league and at 36 years old, he decided to hang up the skates and go to represented young hockey player as an agent.

"Former NHL goaltender Mikko Koskinen has ended his playing career and moved on to a new job in the ice hockey business.

The 36-year-old Koskinen has started working as a player agent. The players' association announced at the end of July that Koskinen had been accepted as a registered agent.

During his playing career, Koskinen was a client of the large agency Wasserman. Now he works for a small office in Helsinki.

As an agent, Koskinen has given up his shareholding in SM-liiga club Kiekko-Espoo. This is reflected in the club's shareholder register."
