It seems that the Montreal Canadiens have confirmed the worst for newcomer Patrik Laine as he suffers a devastating knee-on-knee hit from Toronto Maple Leaf Cedric Pare.

It was a tough scene yesterday evening as the Montreal Canadiens faced-off against their big rival Toronto Maple Leafs. Patrik Laine was involved in a freak play between two players where Cedric Pare went for a body check and the principal point of contact was on Laine's knee. He stayed down for several minutes as he was then helped off the ice and did not return to preseason action.

Laine came over to the Canadiens for a fresh star after multiple years of injury troubles and a long stint in the NHL's Payers assistance program. But now, in just his 2nd preseason game he has found himself injured once again and their is no timetable for his return.

Both Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher left Bell Centre tonight on crutches and with braces on their left knees.

The two players are still being evaluated.

Do you think this was intentional?

There has not been an update on whether he will miss a lot of time or what the extent of the injury is, but from how it looked on the video, it feels like this could be one that keep him out for some time, we will just have to wait until the team comes out with an update.
