On Sunday, The Islanders took on the Rangers at Metlife Stadium in front of 70,000 fans for the Stadium Series. The Isles were up 5-3 going in to the last 5 minutes of the game but ended up blowing the lead and losing the game.

Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield took a tripping penalty while his team was still up by 2 which many fans believed was what gave the Rangers momentum to make their comeback.
Fans took to X after the game berating Mayfield and saying nasty things causing the player to delete his social media account.
Although every team wants passionate fans, taking it to these extremes may be over the top even if athletes know being scrutinized comes with the job.
