An ex NHL referee has broke news that and confirmed that tampering is an ongoing and major issue in the NHL today.

He has stated that there are a couple team specifically such as the Chicago Blackhawks have engaged in unethical business this offseason.

Chicago's Tyler Bertuzzi and Devils' Brett Pesce are under fire for having contact with members of the teams before they are permitted too.

According to former NHL executive Neil Smith, the entire league was aware of the extreme amount of tampering heading into this year's free agency, but because teams exploited loopholes, it appears there was not much the league could do.
"There's ways to get around the [free agent] tampering rules by talking to the agents through a third-party," said Smith on his 'NHL Wraparound' show.

One of the major loopholes that has been committed is that players from the team have reached out on behalf of the executives. This occurred when Nick Folingo convinced Bertuzzi that the Blackhawks should be the team to sign with.

According to league sources, tampering with free agents this year was supposedly running rampant. #NHL #NHLFreeAgency
