The Boston Bruins still have around two weeks before the start of their season which means plenty of training camp left to narrow down their roster but that did not stop them from making some major moves.
The Bruins announced that 19 players were sent packing today as most head down to the AHL to tryout for Providence but the big surprise comes from top prospects Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov both being cut.
Bruins announce a big round of cuts, including Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov.
Fans were quite surprised to see these two cut even though they were not locks on the team but most saw them as on the bubble and pushing for a roster spot which apparently the Bruins did not agree with.
Count me among those who are very surprised to see Lysell cut this early. After a slow start, I thought he had a strong week this past week. Thought it was worth giving him a real look next to Coyle and Marchand for a few practices.
I am getting more and more annoyed with Don Sweeney.
Lysell may be obvious, but I'm actually surprised Duran didn't get another game too.
Thought a better gauge of what they had was when icing closer to a reg. lineup. They played ~6 vs ~16 regulars the last 2 games in a row. Thought perhaps seeing with 13 and 63 made more sense.
I get that lysell hasnt adapted to the nhl game yet but give him a chance with the regular team first. I think i want brazeau on the wing with coyle and marchand if it wont be lysel
