Former New York Islander Matt Martin commented on the strict team rules general manager Lou Lamoriello enforces on his players after Anthony Duclair was forced to cut his hair.

'It's All About The Team'

A controversy struct the NHL community after new New York Islanders signee Anthony Duclair was told to cut his dreadlocks and beard by general manager Lou Lamoriello. This has not been the first time Lamoriello has done this as he is open about his strict rules he upholds for his players.

Former enforcer Matt Martin commented on his time under Lamoriello and his experience with the team rules he enforces.

"You know the policy before signing. I mean, it's no secret," Martin told The Hockey News. "I had long hair. I signed in Toronto. I knew I had to get my hair cut."

Martin added that Lamoriello is not on a power trip, he is one of the best men he as ever known and that he is so loyal and would do anything for his players, he just upholds a tight ship that creates a winning culture.

"The thing about Lou is he is a very loyal guy. He'll do anything for you, as a person and as a player," Martin said. "He isn't someone that's looking for attention for it, either.

"You hear more about this crap than you do the good things he does."

Contrary to popular belief, Lamoriello doesn't just have his rules for funsies.

There's a method and a reason for those methods.

Even with the outrage after the photo surfaced of Duclair's hair on social media, there are also many fans who have sided with Martin and Lamoriello, saying that you know the rules before you sign, you can't be surprised or mad about it.

"I've been with Lou a long time. He expects things done a certain way. He has reasons for why he wants those things done," Martin said. "So if you go up to his office and ask him why, he has a reason for why he believes in it. It's not just to show dominance. He has his reasons as to why we do everything we do.

"Whether you agree with it or not, you respect it because he puts a lot of time and effort into building a winning culture. He always has. So, every single guy falls in line. It's all about the team."

Weather you agree or not, as stated before, the rules are there before you sign, so if you don't want to follow them, then sign somewhere else.
