Jakub Zboril is on the long list of 1st-round draft picks by the Boston Bruins that never panned out. Zboril was taken 13th overall in the 1st-round of the 2015 NHL Draft by the B's after a massively successful career with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, the 6'1 d-man was never able to translate his game to the NHL level as he only appeared in 76 games over 4 season within the B's organization. He spent the majority of his time with the Providence Bruins of the AHL where he did not find that much success either.
Last season he split time between Providence and in the Columbus Blue Jackets AHL affiliate posting 0 goals and 9 assists in 46 contests. With his career balancing in the wind, he signed a professional tryout with the NJ Devils today in order to fight for a roster spot.
It stings for the Bruins that they took him so high in the 2015 draft as names taken after him have become superstars in the league, Kyle Connor, Matthew Barzal, Thomas Chabot, and Travis Konecky to name a few. It is never a guarantee that a prospect or high draft pick will pan out, but to pass up on so many big names leaves a dark spot on the Bruins draft history.
Everyone here at Bruins Latest wish nothing but the best for this next chapter in his career.
