The Toronto Maple Leafs are going through major chances in the leadership department and Mitch Marner has commented in the future of the team.

On Wednesday the team made a major announcement that saw John Tavares being relieved of his duties as the leader of the team and naming Austin Matthews being named the 26th captain of the Leafs.

The core group of the team was in attendance to welcome their new captain, but the focus turned to the rumours of Mitch Marner being traded, in which he didn't want to comment at that time.

"I'm not going to get into that too much today," Marner explained while keeping the focus on Matthews and Tavares. "I'm just going to say I love being here, I've said that from Day 1. I'm very fortunate and lucky to be a Maple Leaf.

"Today is about these two amazing people."

He did speak about his meeting with new Coach Craig Berube.

«Craig has been awesome. That one was pretty funny to get out, a little coffee shop in Etobicoke, and there were only a couple of people in there,» Marner recalled. «It's been great talking to him all summer. We're excited for this year, we're excited to get it going. He's been a joyful new mind and we're excited to play under him.»

It looks like the team has everyone on board with their new structure and are gearing up to make a big run this season.
