Professional hockey player Mike Glemser is suing his opponent, Jan-Niklas Pietsch after he made a brutal hit that left him paralyzed.

Back in February 2023, during a professional hockey game in Germany, Jan-Niklas Pietsch laid a massive and questionable check on Glemser that broke 2 vertebrae leaving him paralyzed from the neck down.

Mike Glemser was playing for the Rosenheim Star Bulls in Germany when he took a late and big hit into boards by Pietsch of Riessersee SC. Initially, Glemser claimed it was not Pietsch's fault and a freak accident, but now, he is suing Pietsch for $1 million USD.

Viewer Discretion is Advised

"A ruling in favor of Glemser could have an impact on other sports. Then, fouls in sports such as ice hockey, football or handball, which lead to punishments such as time penalties or expulsions during the games, could be interpreted as physical assault afterwards."

An additional hard thing about this situation is that Glemser and Pietsch were teammates when both played for the Hannover Scorpions in the 2020-21 season. It is a grey area when a incident like this occurs during a sports, their are always risks involved when playing a full contact sprot but there is a fine line that has to be drawn from being a hockey play or straight up assault.

After watching the video, do you think Pietsch should be guilty of assault?
